I don’t know much about physics, but still have some kind of interest in the Large Hadron Collider. I’m curious about how physicists use this giant atom smasher in hopes of finding the so-called “God Particle”.
Yesterday, after visiting “Dialogue In The Dark”, I and Ken went to attend a seminar in Hong Kong Space Museum Auditorium. The topic of the seminar was “Finding The God Particle”. A man asked the lecturers what if the LHC doesn’t find the Higgs Boson, the “God Particle”, and what if it does. One of the lecture thought for a moment. His reply was quite simple: “I would lose my job if the particle was found.” 🙂
The Higgs Boson is thought to be a god particle that gives all other matter its mass, without which gravity could not work. If the LHC found the Higgs Boson, it would open the door to unlock one of the biggest mysteries about the origins and nature of matter. After that, we may have new answers about the origin of our universe, the dark matter and dark energy, the existence of extra dimensions of space and many others. 🙂
